শেষ পর্যন্ত সমালোচনার মুখে ব্য়াটে ফিলিস্তিনের পাতাকা স্টিকার আকারে লাগিয়ে রাখার অপরাধে করা জরিমানা উঠিয়ে নিয়েছে দেশটির ক্রিকেট বোর্ড। খেলার মাঝেই রাজনৈতিক ইস্যু টেনে আনায় আইসিসি এবং পাকিস্তানের ক্রিকেট আইন মেনেই ৫০ শতাংশ ম্যাচ-ফি জরিমানার মুখে পড়েছিলেন এই উইকেটরক্ষক ব্যাটার। এরপরেই শুরু হয় ব্যাপক সমালোচনা।দেশটির ঘরোয়া ক্রিকেটে কিংবদন্তি উইকেটরক্ষক মঈন খানের ছেলে আজম খান জড়িয়ে পড়েছিলেন এই শাস্তির মাঝে। তবে শেষ পর্যন্ত কড়া সমালোচনার মুখে আজম খানের শাস্তি মওকুফ করেছে পাকিস্তানের ক্রিকেট বোর্ড।বাধ্য হয়েই নিজেদের অবস্থান থেকে সরে আসে পিসিবি।

 সামাজিক যোগাযোগমাধ্যমে একের পর এক নেতিবাচক পোস্টে পিসিবির সমালোচনা করেন পাকিস্তানের সাধারণ নাগরিককরা। সেই চাপেই কিনা দুই দিনের মাথায় নিজেদের স্থান বদল করেছে পাকিস্তান ক্রিকেট বোর্ড।

পাকিস্তানের ঘরোয়া টি-টোয়েন্টি কাপে ব্যাটে ফিলিস্তিনের পতাকা লাগিয়ে এনেছিলেন আজম।  করাচি হোয়াইটস বনাম লাহোর ব্লুজের ম্যাচে ঘটে এমন ঘটনা। পুরো বিষয়টাকে সহজভাবে নেয়নি পাকিস্তান ক্রিকেট বোর্ড (পিসিবি)। আইসিসির আইনশৃঙ্খলা–বহির্ভূত হওয়ার কারণেই মূলত শাস্তি দেওয়া হয়েছে আজমকে। 

আইসিসির নিয়ম অনুযায়ী, জামাকাপড় এবং অন্য সরঞ্জামে খেলোয়াড়দের রাজনৈতিক, ধর্মীয় এবং বর্ণবাদী প্রচারণার ব্যাপারে নিষেধাজ্ঞা রয়েছে। এছাড়া পিসিবির শৃঙ্খলাবিধির ২.৪ ধারাও এরইসঙ্গে ভঙ্গ করে লেভেল–১ স্তরের অপরাধ করেন আজম।

এর আগে বিশ্বকাপে নিজের সেঞ্চুরি ইসরায়েলি আগ্রাসনে নিহত ‘গাজার ভাইবোন’দের উৎসর্গ করেছিলেন পাকিস্তানের মোহাম্মদ রিজওয়ান। সামাজিক যোগাযোগমাধ্যম ‘এক্স’–এ (সাবেক টুইটার) লিখেছিলেন, ‘এই সেঞ্চুরি গাজার ভাইবোনদের জন্য।’ এরপর রিজওয়ানের পক্ষে–বিপক্ষে কথা হয়েছে অনেক। অবশ্য তাকে এই নিয়ে ঝামেলায় পড়তে হয়নি। আইসিসির পক্ষ থেকে বলা হয়েছিল, এটি খেলার মাঠের বাইরের ঘটনা। তবে আজম খান সরাসরি মাঠেই নিয়ে এসেছিলেন এমন বার্তা। যে কারণে জরিমানার মুখে পড়তে হয়েছে তাকে।
